The Orbital Forming process was developed by Mr. G. Bodmer of BK-Taumel who applied for the respective patent in Washington D.C. on December 3, 1962. On March 16, 1965, the United States Patent Office issued Patent No. 3,173,281 to Mr. G. Bodmer or assigns. The first orbital forming machine in America was supplied in 1965 to an automotive components manufacturer in Indiana.
