In general, a die set is built to punch, cut, shear, form or stretch materials such as sheet metals to be used in manufactured parts.

Die shoes, are upper and lower plates for die sets. These die plates can be manufactured to any specifications, including the replacement of an existing shoe that may have been damaged during a production run.

The top or upper shoe, sometimes referred to as the punch-holder. The bottom or lower shoe is generally a little thicker than the top or upper shoe. These bottom shoes often have special shape, and holes for scrap or slug exit clearance.

Die shoes assembly for progressive die is the collective assembly of upper and lower die shoes, guide pins and bushings. The guide pins and bushings are employed to allow an improved accuracy of motion upper shoe towards the lower shoe.

Guide pins location can be set at back of stamping area so as to leave the front area open to operator, and the steel material strip can feed and move from left to right. Guide pins location can also be set at diagonal position of the plates, to make possible for the steel material strip feeding either left to right or front to back.

SDB stands for die shoe assembly with steel die shoe plates, guide pins placed at diagonal position, and bushing of sliding type.

SDR stands for die shoe assembly with steel die shoe plates, guide pins placed at diagonal position, and rolling type bushing.

The die shoe plates are made of SC50 steel (equivalent to SAE 1050) and annealed and stress relieved, and ground, which allows us to achieve a tighter flatness tolerance, therefore providing better perpendicular tolerances for pin and bushing holes during the machining process.

In case of special size of shoe plate other than the chart attached, you can choose the type and model of die shoe, and let us know the size you want. We will make a special size for you.
Special shape and holes
In case of special shape and holes of shoe plate, no matter upper shoe or bottom shoe, you can choose the type and model of die shoe, and make a drawing to let us know the shape and holes specifications. We will make a special die shoe assembly according to your specifications.
